What counts as an external link? An external link is anything that you can click that loads content hosted somewhere other than on LinkedIn. YouTube and other sources. It even looks as though links to your own LinkedIn articles are treated as though they’re external links. There are a few methods for sharing links without being penalised by the LinkedIn algorithm. A common option (but not one I recommend) is to place the link in a comment rather than in the main post. The issue with posting the link in the comments is that LinkedIn’s default algorithmic sorting means that the comment containing the link might end up as the 7th, 42nd or 253rd item in the list. It really depends on how popular the post is. Even for something that’s moderately popular - say there are 20 unique commenters - it’s easy for the link-bearing comment to be lost in the undergrowth.
You’ve probably noticed that these platforms have long and ugly review links. You can shorten them and make them more appealing to customers, which will make them more engaging and help you get more reviews. Step 1: Copy your long review link. Step 2: Go to a link shortening site like Bitly. Step 4: Copy and paste that shortened link into your texts, emails, and social media posts asking for reviews. The bottom line is you’re going to get more reviews when you text customers than when you just email them or give them a handout. Email rates are only about 20% and 2%, respectively. This boost in engagement is going to earn you far more reviews, and since the business with the most reviews is normally who wins the sale, it will increase your revenue, too. So how do you text a review link? Step 1: Get your shortened review link (see above). Step 2: Use a tool like Text Request to text your link to one customer at a time or hundreds. If sending a message to one person… Step 3: Click Compose Message. Step 4: Enter the number of the person you want to text. Step 5: Type your message using your shortened link. All you have to do is subscribe to their service and they will do it for you. These free services are a fantastic offer as getting classified ads in places take quite a lot of effort. For a start the ad has to be composed and then the headline has to be written. Then one must compose a list of keywords and test them out to make sure that they will in fact attract visitors to your site. Keywords are of course key to this whole process. Get the keywords right and your website will get displayed. But of course before it does get displayed the search engine crawlers have to find it and rate it. Relevance: the website must relate to the item (keyword) being searched for. Links: search engines give a lot of weight to the number of "quality" links to your website. Fresh content. If the crawlers don't find new content often the site might become stale and drop in ratings (and of course number of times displayed). The search engines penalize keyword stuffing, lack of relevance and poor grammar. Using a short URL service is very important if you want to "tweet". All the other advantages are nice bonuses.
