Trends - With over 150 million Twitter users Tweeting over 500 million Tweets a day, some topics become more popular than others. The Trends list is a real-time summary of the most popular topics being Tweeted about at that moment. Tweetup - An in-person networking event that is promoted almost exclusively via Twitter is called a Tweetup. Tweetups have become very popular because you can quickly bring together a group of like-minded people. URL Shortener - URL shorteners are used to turn long URLs into shorter URLs. This is important because you only have 140 characters available for your Tweets. Some URL shortners include TinyURL, Owly and many others. Username - Your username is also known as your Twitter handle. Your username must be unique and contain fewer than 15 characters. It is also used to identify you on Twitter for replies and mentions. Who to Follow - You'll find Who to Follow in a tab on the left side of your profile. You will see a few recommendations of accounts the Twitter algorithm thinks you'll find interesting. The recommendations are based on the types of accounts you're already following and who those people follow.
Recently, the following happened to me, I wrote my regular weekly newsletter and posted it on my site. Since this was a longer WordPress URL, like millions of other webmasters, I used a URL shortening service to make this link more usable and manageable. Which can be easily done, but when I checked the link, I found that the shortening service was not working properly and giving the dreaded "Page Not Found" response. I mean Google is Google. And everything works better with Google; this was the first time something I used with Google had not worked as planned. No big loss, unless you were linking your Black Friday & Cyber Monday traffic through these shorteners. But this brings up the whole question of whether or not you should use a link shortener? A URL link shortener works by redirecting your shorter link to the longer one you have entered into their database. If this is a permanent 301 redirect, then your SEO benefits should pass through to your longer link.|It isn't just large companies who can benefit. Small, independent businesses can target their specific demographic far more easily and quickly using Facebook. People can 'like' your page and share your content with friends. This 'word of mouth' strategy has the potential to go viral and reach far more people than any other form of advertising. To begin with, your brand page has to look the part. Make sure that you fill out all the sections accurately and in full (including opening hours and business address) so that potential customers can find the information they need quickly. Think of your cover photo as a billboard for your brand. Use a high quality image that best represents you. For example, a retailer specialising in pet products may use images of cute animals, while a restaurant may show their most appealing dish. Facebook guidelines state that a cover photo cannot contain any of the following; price or purchase information in relation to services or products you provide, a call to action ('like us now,' etc.) or any contact information.
